WORKS ON PAPER
As opposed to my oils, which are created over time from drawings, photographs and imagination, my drawings of the figure on paper are all made directly from life. As such, they are impressions only, both literally and figuratively.
There is emotional intensity in the short period of time available to make these drawings. It is a game of beat-the-clock to see, react, express. It is fun, and there’s no time to hesitate or be shy.
What engages my interest is the line—if it is felt, it can say gravity, form, weight, movement, attitude, beauty. With less cover, there is no faking or fudging. If the line is good, the drawing lives in time and space. It is the captured moment. |
